Tour Plan: Morocco Itinerary 9 Days

Day 1 : Tangier to Chefchaouen (112 km)

Our 9 day tour from Tangier begins with a pick-up from your hotel, the airport, or the port. Tangier is a unique city where Africa meets Europe and the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea. After a short visit around Tangier, we’ll head into the beautiful Rif Mountains toward the famous Blue City of Chefchaouen. There, you can stroll through its peaceful blue-painted streets and soak up the relaxed atmosphere.

Day 2 : Chafchaouen to Fes through Volubilis and Meknes (260 km)

Today, we’ll head to the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis (Walili), one of the most impressive archaeological sites in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After exploring the ruins and taking in the history, we’ll continue on to the imperial city of Meknes. There, we’ll visit some of its main highlights, including the grand Bab El Mansour gate, the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, the Royal Stables, and the old Jewish Quarter. Later in the day, we’ll drive toward Fes.

Day 3 : Guided tour in Fes

After breakfast, we’ll explore the highlights of Fes, the oldest of Morocco’s imperial cities, with a local guide. The tour will take you through some of the city’s most important cultural and historical sites. We’ll begin at the gates of the Royal Palace, then head into the ancient Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Along the way, we’ll visit Al-Qaraouine University, one of the oldest in the world, and the old Jewish Quarter known as the Mellah.

After lunch, we’ll stop by the famous Chouara Tannery to see how traditional leather goods are made. To finish the day, we’ll drive up to an old fortress that offers stunning panoramic views over the entire Medina.

Day 4 : Fes to Sahara Desert (470 km)

Today we’ll leave Fes and head to Ifrane to see the famous Atlas Lion statue. Then we’ll drive through the cedar forests of Azrou, where you might spot some wild Barbary macaques. After a lunch stop in Midelt, we’ll continue through Errachidia, the Ziz Valley, and Erfoud on our way to the Merzouga Desert.

Once we arrive, you’ll take a camel ride across the golden dunes, enjoying a beautiful sunset along the way. At the desert camp, you’ll have a tasty dinner, then relax by the campfire with traditional Berber music under the stars.

Day 5 : Sahara Desert to Dades Valley via Rissani (264 km)

After breakfast, we’ll leave the Merzouga Desert and head to Rissani to explore its lively souk. Then we’ll visit a fossil workshop in Erfoud before continuing toward the stunning Todra Gorges, passing through the palm groves of Tinjdad. We’ll stop at the gorge for lunch and take in the amazing scenery.

In the afternoon, we’ll drive to Dades Valley, with a stop to see the unique rock formations known as monkey toes.

Day 6 : Dades Valley to Marrakech across Atlas Mountain (350 km)

Today we’ll follow the Road of 1000 Kasbahs, heading toward the beautiful Rose Valley, famous for its yearly Rose Festival. Then we continue through the palm groves of Skoura to Ouarzazate, where we’ll visit the Atlas Film Studios and the historic Kasbah Taourirt.

Next, we’ll explore Ait Ben Haddou, the largest Kasbah in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s also a popular filming location for movies and shows like Gladiator, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones.

In the afternoon, we’ll drive to Marrakech via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m), with stops to take in the mountain views and visit a local argan oil cooperative.

Day 7 : Marrakech tour with a Local Guide

Today, we’ll explore Marrakech, the Red City, with a local guide. You’ll visit key historical and cultural spots, including the Bahia Palace, Lmnara, the Saadian Tombs, and the Majorelle Garden. We’ll also stop by the Koutoubia Mosque and stroll through the bustling souk of the Medina.

In the afternoon, you’ll have free time to explore Jemaa El Fna Square, where you can watch storytellers, musicians, snake charmers, and healers, and enjoy the vibrant food stalls.

Day 8 : Marrakech to Essaouira (177 km)

After breakfast, we’ll drive about 3 hours from Marrakech to the charming city of Essaouira (also known as Mogador). On the way, we’ll stop at a women’s cooperative to see how they make precious argan oil using traditional methods.

Once we arrive in Essaouira, we’ll visit the fishing port and explore the old Portuguese fortress, where ancient cannons line up, offering views over the Atlantic Ocean. Then, we’ll stroll through the Medina, filled with local handicrafts and souvenir shops.

Day 9 : Transfer to Marrakech from Essaouira (177 km)

On the final day, we’ll depart from Essaouira and return to Marrakech. You’ll have some free time in Marrakech before we transfer you to the airport or your accommodation.
